History Center Exhibits

Our 1889 Romanesque style sandstone building was built to house the early Evening News and later became the offices of Edison Sault Electric Company. Chippewa County history is everywhere throughout the building.

Permanent displays include 1840 Land Survey collection, bottles recovered from the St Marys River, Native American artifacts, and a Sault Ste. Marie City Police exhibit. The wonderful American Café exhibit welcomes visitors to stop and reminisce. There is a story connected to all the items gathered.

Model Train Layout Display

The 1950’s “O” gauge train layout brings to life the Soo Line era with representative businesses and area countryside. As the trains navigate the route, they pass historical sites with stories to tell.
